Fall Supper

Hello Lac du Bonnet Residents and those who live near-by, are visiting or are thinking of visiting!

We wanted you all to know that the 2011 Lac du Bonnet Regional Library Fall Supper Fundraiser was a smashing success! Compliments on the event are still being mentioned to the Library Staff and Legion Staff.

We want to thank the many people who assisted our evening, by providing groceries, time, and/or money and by inviting people to the dinner.

We had many return diners as well as some new ones who found out about us through the Internet, our advertising or from family and friends. Thank you all for helping make it a wonderful evening.

Thanks again for your continued support!

See you in September 2012!

Summer Reading Program 2012 - Theme is "Fantasy"

Making plans for the kids for the summer of 2012? The Lac du Bonnet Library will be having a free summer program available to Preschoolers on up to kids in Grade 6! The theme this time will be “Fantasy”! This program is a great way to keep your child reading during the summer and interacting with kids they may not see otherwise!

The Summer Reading Program will be on Tuesdays in July and August for kids going into Grades 1 – 6, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and on Thursdays from 1:30-3:30. The program times for Preschool kids with an adult occur on Thursdays in July and August from 10:45 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Both groups will be doing crafts, having snacks and interacting with books through story time or book discussions.

For more information on the program you can call us at the library (345-2653) or email us (mldb@mts.net).

This is also a drop in program, so once we have your child’s important information, he or she can come to the program on the days that work for the family.

Thursday mornings 10:45 am – 11:30 am (during our regularly planned Story Time) pre-schoolers and children entering Kindergarten in the fall are encouraged to come with an adult to hear a story and get a snack.

Parents or grandparents or babysitters who bring youngsters to Storytime can enjoy a visit, while a dedicated library volunteer reads to the children!  After stories and a snack, the children enjoy choosing books and videos to take home for more reading pleasure!

Author Visit

Thursday, June 9th, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Come hear Theodore (Ted) Fontaine discussed his book,

Broken Circle: The Dark Legacy of Indian Residential Schools.

There were many people in attendance to hear Ted’s moving account of life in the time of Residential Schools.

We thank Ted for being able to share his story with us.

Spring Tea

The Lac du Bonnet Annual Spring Tea was held Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Lac du Bonnet Regional Library. Volunteers and Friends of the Library were invited to a “Come and Go” Tea between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

We were pleased to see so many people attend our Tea and 20th Anniversary in this building despite the rainy day weather.

Our Annual Spring Tea is an afternoon specially organized for your enjoyment to thank you for all you have done to support our library throughout the past!

So thank you all again for helping us have a wonderful event!

Family Literacy Day – January 27th – Annual Event

Family Literacy Day takes place annually on January 27 to celebrate adults and children reading and learning together, and to encourage Canadians to spend at least 15 minutes enjoying a learning activity as a family every day.

The Lac du Bonnet Regional Library celebrated Family Literacy Day on Thursday, January 26th at 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the library. Many families joined us for this free event. There was plenty of laughter and fun that night. Many thanks go out to Bev Richmond, Heather Shabaga and Teri Usackis for helping with the games, draws and snacks. We are so glad so many came out and enjoyed the evening together! Check back regularly for the next event we’ll hold.

To make it even easier to participate in fun learning activities Play for Literacy, ABC Life Literacy Canada, with funding from HSBC Bank Canada, is pleased to offer an online Family Literacy Day tips, suggestions and Literacy Passport which can be downloaded free of charge and enjoyed by all. Visit FamilyLiteracyDay.ca to download your copies and let the fun of learning take place wherever you go!
